Texas is BIG and of course everything in it is supersized. Just nipping across the panhandle is a couple of hundred miles and there’s very little to break the endless vistas of flat arid country – we’ve definitely arrived in cowboy land!
…not much apart from Palo Duro Canyon, which is the second biggest Canyon in USA. Just 120 miles long and a thousand feet deep, this State Park made a perfect stopover for Helen’s Birthday.
There’s supposed to be some climbing here, but closer inspection of the rock suggested that a day’s walking would be more enjoyable – think weetabix made of mud….
There’s a great trail out to “The Lighthouse” which is really quite spectacular. ..
