Another favourite spot to avoid bombs and bird bans, so no surprise to find a number of teams with the same idea of a visit to Mother Carey’s. Here’s Helen rapping down Brazen ButtressWe started with Joyous Gard (great route, but how it only gets HVS is a mystery!) which also provided the perfect angle to get some shots of Steve on Rock Idol… and Tom on Strait GateNext up, Helen and I did Sunsmoke, E2 5b (maybe more like E1 5c with one tough but well protected move) and caught some good pics of James leading Herod from the rap line.Finally, with the tide rapidly diminishing options, we did the outstanding Brazen Buttress, E2 5b (every time I do this I keep remembering belatedly how pumpy it is!) and got some more nice pics of Steve on Deep SpaceEmma on Herod… and Tom catching the last of the rays on WraithGreat day’s climbing and nice to see so many competent teams making the most of the superb weather. Hardly scary at all!
