We’d only planned on staying a day in Alsace, but the setting is gorgeous and the weather has been fab, so we decided to stay another night and make a trip to the high crags of Martinswand. These are at 1200m in a ski area, but with the Rocks tucked into a south facing cirque we were climbing in shorts and t shirt despite the altitude and surrounding snow fields.
The rock is very sound granite and again the somewhat incongruous presence of bolts is the main clue that you aren’t in the lake district.
Magnifique!
