We woke to another gorgeous day in paradise. Our last, at least for this trip…
A 100m ab rope is a pretty handy piece of kit on Lundy, and of course our thoughtful meet leader had brought one. This gets you all the way to the bottom of another 3* Lundy classic. American Beauty. A huge slab with a couple of overlaps and a steep corner to finish. 3 pitches of HVS fun.
It’s an atmospheric spot at the bottom of the zawn, with a deep chasm from which strange musical strains were emenating. The spooky feeling was resolved soon after when a large black seal flolloped out of the cave to see what we were up to. It watched avidly for the next hour or so, no doubt silently critiquing our performance.
Only about half past one, and the ferry doesn’t leave until 4pm, so just time for one last route. A dash to Landing Craft bay and we were down at the foot of “Ice” in good time. “Probably the most fallen off route on Lundy” according to the guide. I was determined not to enhance its reputation, despite the very sweaty conditions, and just made it through the crux on will power and psyche. A grand finale to a great trip!
All that remained was a stroll to the jetty and a relaxed cruise back to Ilfracombe, accompanied by dolphins! Awesome!
