Turned out a bit chilly, so it probably wasn’t a great idea to explore El Castillejo near the village of Orgiva. This is at 470m in the Alpujarra, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Fun to explore up the 4wd track in this pretty mountain area – a world away from the built-up Costa and poly-bag agriculture, but not awesome climbing.
Instead we retrace our steps to join Justin and Chris at Los Vedos, which was 4C warmer and better climbing.
We did a few routes on the Placa Roja, a striking red wall with interesting in cut holds and occasional cracks.
Then back to the Canal sector for Pangea, perhaps the route of the trip so far – a 25m 6a extended to 50m on some incredibly crimpy rock to serve up a sustained 7a+. One of those routes where you convince yourself that you must have done the crux, only for more hard climbing to appear – and the cycle repeats until you finally make it to the top.
