Another gorgeous day with just a hint of a breeze to make some sunny climbing tolerable. Theos is a series of sectors running rightwards from Yellow Wall and making up the rest of the escarpment, with around sixty routes in all. Plenty of choice from 5c through to 7b with lots of 6s and a great outlook over the ‘Lakos’ fields bursting with produce below.
We headed for the rightmost sector and Helen warmed up on Mad Ball, 6a.
She very sensibly decided to quit while she was ahead, but very kindly belayed me on Ace of Spades – a 20m 7a with an extension taking it to 7a+, on thin edges and occasional tufa blobs. Arriving at the 20m mark I could see the chopped bolt which would have made the intermediate lower off – obviously someone had decided it would be better as all or nothing. I pressed on, with Motorhead’s lyrics running through my head…
If you like to gamble, I tell you I’m your man,
You win some, lose some, it’s all the same to me,
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say,
I don’t share your greed, the only card I need is…
… and made the full tick, despite it being more than comfortably warm.
Time to down tools and head for a swim!
