Arriving at the first campsite over the border, just north of Jaca we settled into the bar for beer and arroz al pulpo y bacalou (octopus and cod). The TV showed scenes of devastation caused by 150 kph winds near Santander, so perhaps Brittany Ferries weren’t bluffing! The weather front was forecast to sweep across the rest of Spain and sure enough we woke to snow down to 1000m. 4 hours south down the empty and toll free A23 and we were in Montanejos – just in time to squeeze in a 4 pitch route in the Maimona gorge before the sun went off the crag – that’s more like what we came for 🙂 |
