After about 30 years of wanting to go to Lundy, the opportunity finally arose thanks to Steve George organising a Rucksack Club meet. 20 of us boarded the MS Oldenberg for the 2 hour crossing from Ilfracombe, and a squall of rain as we set off had me a bit worried. Needlessly, as it transpired, as we had fantastic weather for the next 4 days.
On arrival, your bags are collected and whisked up to the campsite, so there’s no excuse to not get on the crag.
Landing Craft Bay is nearby, with a bunch of 3* routes. Meninirons E1 and Destiny E2 were a great introduction to this granite crack climbing paradise.
Then off to the Marisco Tavern for a well deserved beer and an unexpected quiz night. We didn’t quite win, but we did get a spot prize for an impromptu duet of Billy Idols “White Wedding”!

Dom, I’m super jealous. Lundy is a place I’ve always wanted to visit.
Hi Martin. Yup, it took me 30 years to get around to it, and I can’t believe what I was missing out on. I’ll have to head back soon, so if you’re ever in the right country and keen….
Cheers
Dom
