The forecast for Saturday wasn’t great, so we made plans for a rest day. As it turned out it was dry and warm, but overcast, so I upped the agenda to “active rest” which is basically an excuse to do anything that isn’t climbing. I’d spotted a sign for the Via Ferrata at La Hermida, and thought I’d take a look.
This turned out to be a fun outing – free to access if you have your own gear, and with some steep rung-hauling and an atmospheric 100m “bridge” to navigate.
Once the tricky bits are out of the way you have an option to top out up an ancient shepherds track, giving an 800m ascent and some great views of the gorge.
A fine “rest day” -I’d recommend it if you’re in the area!
