Hazy clouds promised decent conditions on the sun-trap of Kokkinovrachos so we made our way up to the Hospital / Red Rocks sectors. Helen had visited with a crag-full of Rucksackers a couple of weeks ago and was keen to get on some of the longer routes.
On first appearance the rock looks a bit like solidified mud, but on closer inspection the chocolate coloured limestone is remarkably solid, with interesting cracks, pockets and edges. Many of the routes run to a full 40m, with the battle against rope weight and drag weighing heavily towards the top. Helen led a couple of these: Distomo, 6a+
…and the excellent Mega Pipe, 6b
Hard to get a full impression of the scale of the crag, but here goes…
We finished off by running the first couple of pitches of Sami into one full 40m runout for an improvised and enjoyable 6c (probably more like 6b/+ providing you like your broccoli nice and fresh!)
Back to Panjika for a beer and we catch up with this unruly bunch 🙂
